Many of you have joined me over the past twenty years as readers of my column, La Bonne Vie. You’ve followed along on my many adventures here in northern Indiana and over the ocean. You’ve journeyed with me on this trip of seeking the good life. Thank you!
So often, though, I find myself living a parallel life. Not unlike spies, I have my daily life, and then I have my parallel life. That life might involve parenting, caretaking of others, dealing with those things outside of our routine patterns. Many of us struggle quietly, putting in the hours, giving it our all while continuing to hold together the pieces of “normal” life. And yet, we rarely share about it since our other life continues despite.
My newest parallel life involves cancer. As a writer, it’s helpful to write about it as I work through the myriad thoughts that a cancer diagnosis involves. It’s a very different journey than La Bonne Vie. But I hope to see it through the lens of goodness, of what matters, of hope. If you want to follow my specific journey, I welcome you. I need the support of a positive community to buoy me through.
Thank you for being here. For listening. For understanding.

Cher Rachel I’m so sorry to hear this - you are the kindest most generous person on Substack with your daily nudges of good cheer and bonhomie. I love reading your notes, please give yourself space and time to look after yourself as well as all your many duties … and ask for help when you need it. Janine xxx
